'Patriot' studio again damned with fake praise
Article Abstract:
Sony's Columbia Pictures has admitted that its own employees posed as moviegoers in a TV commercial endorsing the movie 'The Patriot.' A Sony spokeswoman said the company would not deny the key facts contained in an article reported by Daily Variety. The article said Tamaya Petteway and Anthony Jefferson, who work in Columbia's marketing department, posed as ordinary moviegoers during a man-on-the-street interview for the said film. Studios admit to targeting children
Article Abstract:
Hollywood executives admitted to the Senate Commerce Committee that movie studios resorted to techniques that specifically marketed R-rated movies to children. The executives promised that film companies would stop promoting rated-R movies on TV shows, publications and on Web sites that are geared for children but would not say if certain practices exposed in an FTC report could be avoided. The report was ordered by Pres Clinton in the aftermath of the Columbine High School killings in Colorado.
